I've travelled through out Europe and Rick Steve's guides have always been helpful. Thankfully, he has spent time in Israel, despite his usual euro-centric book series.
Why Visit Israel
Israel: Beyond Europe
And interestingly, when you search his site for terms like 'Israel', 'Jerusalem', 'Tel Aviv' and the like, you get this list for a travel First Aid Kit.
Ricky got sick himself many years ago in a trip through the eastern Mediterranean. Inside his book Rick Steve's Europe through the Back Door 2007: Travel Skills Handbook recommends eating yogurt with its helpful enzymes to prevent, uh, stomach distress. If you do get distressed as he does, the next recommendation is for lots of tea, potatoes, breads, toasts and boiled rice.
